Portobello Beach

Located just a swift 15-minute drive from Kos Airport, Portobello Beach is hands down one of my favourite family hotels. It’s got Greek charm, sunshine and just enough chaos to keep the kids entertained while you pretend you're on a grown-up getaway.

The Rooms

Let’s start with a win. The rooms were chef’s kiss. Two separate bedrooms meant we finally got the parental privacy we’ve been chasing since the kids learned to open doors. Clean, comfy, spacious and nicely laid out. This is how family rooms should be done.

The Pool

Now the main pool is saltwater, which immediately splits the crowd into Team “It’s Natural and Healing” and Team “Why Is My Mouth Crying”
The kids weren’t thrilled and neither were we after accidentally swallowing half the Aegean trying to float.

But here's the twist. There’s a full-blown waterpark across the road that’s part of the hotel. Freshwater pools, slides, splash zones and all-out fun.
Top tip. Park yourself at the waterpark all day. Only downside? Your all inclusive wristband becomes just jewellery so prepare to pay for drinks and snacks. The great Salt vs Wallet War of Kos begins here.

The Beach

Absolutely beautiful. Calm waters, soft sand and the kind of vibe that makes you feel like you're living in a postcard.
Perfect for kids to paddle, parents to relax and everyone to temporarily forget the saltwater betrayal back at the main pool.

Food and Drink

The buffet? Very good. Not just “it’ll do” but genuinely enjoyable. Varied enough to keep things interesting with fresh dishes and some real Greek flavour. Plus chips for the fussy eaters we pretend we’re not raising.
Staff? Lovely. Friendly, helpful and really made the place feel warm like the sun but less likely to give you a burn.

Entertainment

The evening entertainment team deserve medals. They go all out for the kids with dancing, singing, mini discos and full-blown kids club energy.
It’s organised chaos in the best possible way and gave us a chance to actually sit down and enjoy a drink.

And when the kids are dancing their hearts out, there’s a piano bar tucked away like a secret grown-up escape. Peace, quiet and maybe even a mojito if you’re lucky.

Extras and Location

There’s a little arcade for the kids, plenty of chill-out zones and if you fancy some actual nightlife, Kardamena is just a short taxi ride away.
Shops, bars, music and a chance to feel young again until you realise it’s past your bedtime and your sandals aren’t made for dancing.

One Last Thing

Right next door is Portobello Royal, the fancier twin sister hotel where the rooms sparkle and the pool water is probably Evian.
We looked longingly through the gates like the cast of Oliver Twist but alas, we were not of royal wallet. Maybe one day.

Final Thoughts

I loved this hotel. Genuinely. It had everything we needed for a fun easy-going family holiday with beautiful surroundings, great rooms and just enough quirks to make it memorable.
Would absolutely go back. Just maybe with a secret stash of bottled water and ice creams for the waterpark.

Rating. Four salted cannonballs and one piano bar espresso out of five. Proper good family fun.
